– Edison Park Turkey Trot – Thanksgiving Day – November 27 – 8:00-10:30 AM

The Troop has a longtime tradition of helping with the set-up at the Edison Park Turkey Trot. The Trot Committee is always very grateful for our help with the big event. It is really fun to see how many people come out for this event – 10,000 or more runners and a huge number of spectators. It shows what a great neighborhood we live in.
We will meet in front of the Edison Park Field House on Northwest Highway at 8:00 to get our assignment. Scouts can earn service hours for helping with the Turkey Trot.
There is no uniform requirement for this event. Please dress for the weather.

– St. Juliana Creche Set-Up – Saturday, November 29 – 9:00 AM

Another Troop tradition is setting up the parish creche in front of the church on the Saturday before the first Sunday of Advent. The set-up takes an hour or less and includes trips into the church basement to bring everything out. It’s all very interesting!
There is no uniform requirement for this event. Please dress for the weather.

– 2026 Scout Dues are Due by December 15!

The Troop will start collecting dues for the 2026 Scouting year now through December 15, 2025.  You may have received an email from Scouting America informing you that Your Scouting Membership is up for Renewal.  DO NOT USE THE LINK IN THAT EMAIL TO PAY YOUR DUES!
We need you to make your payment to the Troop so that we can coordinate funds going to the Council and funds that stay in the Troop.
The cost of dues for 2026 is as follows:
Scouts – $150.00 – Most of this goes to Scouting America and the remainder stays in the Troop to fund our activities. Included in this is a subscription to Scouting Life magazine.
Adults – $100.00 – Most of this goes to the BSA and the remainder stays in the Troop.
New This Year! Pay your dues online to the Troop by Credit Card or ACH transfer from your bank account. We have partnered with the St. Juliana Parish GiveCentral service to accept online payments. Go to the Troop GiveCentral web page at:www.givecentral.org/scouts965 or use the QR Code.

You do not need a GiveCentral account to use this service. Simply fill in the primary information, scroll down to check the box in either Youth Membership, Adult Membership or Adult Membership with Scout Life. Then enter the number of members you are paying for. You can pay for one or more members. The total cost will then be calculated. Scroll down to enter your payment information – either Credit Card or Bank Account. Select the “Preview Total” button and follow directions to complete your payment.
You can setup a GiveCentral account by saving your profile and creating a username and password.
If you already have a GiveCentral account, click the link above the Primary Information section to login to your account. Your information will be auto filled on the page.
Again, please do not pay your dues to Scouting America.

– Cantigny Park and First Division Museum Day Trip – Saturday, December 6

The Scouts voted on the December day trip outing. Their choices included:
  • a plain old hike in the forest preserves
  • Cantigny Park and First Division Museum in Wheaton, IL
  • Hike and Bowl to Classic Lanes in Morton Grove
  • wall climbing at Vertical Endeavors
They picked Cantigny Park and the First Division Museum in Wheaton. It is an excellent choice! The museum is very interesting and the park is fun to explore (read army tank display). We might mix in a little bit of hiking, but the focus of the outing is the museum.
We’ll have definite times to leave and return next week. The cost of the trip is $5.00 per participant. The permission slip is in the Resource Center.

Scoutmaster’s Minute – Thanksgiving

As we head into Thanksgiving I want to challenge you Scouts to think about the things you are grateful for.
Do you live in a warm house?
Do you have enough to eat?
Do you go to a good school?
Do you have loving parents and family members?
Do you have friends or family who have your back?
Does your faith help you appreciate all of these gifts?
I encourage you to take a few minutes over the next few days to think about these things. You might be surprised when you realize how much God has given you.

Have a good weekend!

Mr. Pelrine
Scoutmaster, Troop 965
